Where Ancient Healing Meets Ocean Serenity
There’s something that shifts when you step away from everyday demands and finally give yourself room to breathe. Not a busy escape or a packed schedule, just time that’s actually yours. At Ayurvie Weligama Resort, on Sri Lanka’s quieter southern coast, that space has been created with intention. It’s more than a wellness stay. It’s a place where women can slow down, turn inward, and reconnect with parts of themselves that often get lost in daily life.
Mornings begin with the sound of the Indian Ocean, steady and calming. Sunrise yoga happens with open views of clear blue water. During the day, you receive Ayurvedic treatments based on traditions that have been practiced for generations, shaped around what your body needs right now.
This is what the 6-day Women’s Seaside Sanctuary retreat is about. Not becoming someone new, but returning to yourself, feeling a little lighter, more grounded, and more at ease than when you arrived.
Why Women Choose Our Seaside Sanctuary
A Space Designed for Women's Unique Wellness Needs
Women carry a lot, both physically and emotionally. Hormonal shifts, changes in the body, and the constant balancing of roles all take their toll over time. This retreat is built with that in mind. The practices here aren’t generic. Yoga sessions are chosen to support hormonal balance. Ayurvedic treatments focus on women’s health and overall wellbeing. Everything is planned around what women actually experience, not what looks good on paper.
The Healing Power of Coastal Tranquility
Weligama, which means “sandy village,” was once a quiet fishing town. Even now, as more people discover it, the place still feels relaxed and unforced. Life moves at an easier pace here, which makes it a natural setting for rest and recovery. The warm air, open skies, and steady presence of the ocean help the body slow down without effort.
Being by the sea isn’t just about the view. The ocean air feels different. The sound of waves settles the nervous system in a way that’s hard to explain until you experience it. At Ayurvie Weligama, the beach is right there. You can walk slowly along the shore, sit with the water during meditation, or simply spend time listening and breathing. Often, that’s where the deepest sense of calm begins.
Authentic Ayurveda with Modern Luxury
What makes this retreat different is how naturally traditional Ayurveda and modern comfort come together. You’re not asked to choose between authenticity and ease. Both are there. The Ayurvedic doctors here are fully trained and deeply experienced in this ancient system, and the villas are calm, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed so your body can truly rest.
Ayurveda means “the science of life,” and it looks at health as a balance between body, mind, and emotions. Instead of chasing symptoms, the focus is on what’s underneath. Treatments, food, and daily rhythms are tailored to you. This approach is especially supportive for women dealing with hormonal changes, stress, digestion issues, or long-term fatigue. It works gently, but deeply.
The Power of Sisterhood and Shared Experience
One of the things many women don’t expect is how meaningful it feels to be among others who are here for the same reason. Different lives, different stories, but a shared decision to put themselves first for once. That creates a quiet sense of trust very quickly.
There’s something grounding about witnessing other women’s journeys while moving through your own. The honesty. The support. The moments of laughter that come unexpectedly. Whether it’s during yoga, over meals, or in evening reflection circles, you begin to feel held by the group. These connections often last well beyond the retreat, turning into friendships and support that carry on long after everyone goes home.
Your Transformative Journey: What to Expect
Day 1: Arrival and Grounding
Your time here starts as soon as you arrive at Ayurvie Weligama. Once you’ve settled into your oceanfront villa, you’ll come together with the other women for a welcome circle. It’s a simple, relaxed way to meet the people you’ll be sharing the week with, along with the facilitators who’ll guide you. There’s no pressure. It just helps set the tone for the days ahead.
After that, there’s a gentle yoga session to help you shift out of travel mode. The movements are slow and accessible, whatever your level. The focus is on breathing, feeling your body again, and letting things soften. As the sun lowers over the Indian Ocean, most people start to feel their shoulders drop for the first time in a while.
The day ends with your one-on-one Ayurvedic consultation. This is an unhurried conversation with an experienced doctor, where you talk through your health history, daily habits, current concerns, and what you’re hoping to get from the week. Your doctor will assess your constitution and put together a plan that’s specific to you. This becomes the foundation for the treatments and care you’ll receive throughout the retreat.
Day 2: Deep Detoxification and Breath
Day two gently brings you into the heart of Ayurveda. This is when your personalized treatments begin. Depending on what your body needs, that might mean a warm oil massage, time in a herbal steam, or a calming oil treatment on the forehead. These practices aren’t about forcing a cleanse. They’re about helping your body let go of built-up stress and heaviness, at its own pace.
The morning starts with a slightly more active yoga session, followed by a breathwork practice. Breathwork, or pranayama, is simple but surprisingly powerful. It helps steady the nervous system, clear the mind, and bring energy back when things feel dull or foggy. You’ll learn techniques that are easy to use later, even back home.
The afternoon is slower. You have space for your treatments and quiet time to rest or reflect. As the day winds down, there’s a guided walk along the beach at sunset. Walking barefoot, feeling the sand and water, has a way of settling everything. Thoughts soften. The body relaxes. Many women end up remembering these walks long after the retreat ends.
Day 3: Empowerment and Restoration
By the middle of the week, the focus shifts inward in a different way. There’s an empowerment workshop that looks at self-care, boundaries, and learning to listen to your own needs without feeling guilty about it. It’s less about theory and more about real life. How you give too much. Where you overextend. And what it might look like to take yourself seriously again.
The morning yoga is slow and deeply restful. Props are used so your body can relax without effort. Poses are held longer, giving tension time to soften instead of being pushed away. This is followed by an herbal massage that builds on that sense of ease, often leaving people feeling almost weightless afterward.
The afternoons are left open on purpose. You can swim, read, write, nap, or just sit and stare at the sea. There’s no schedule pulling you anywhere. For many women, this simple permission to do nothing feels surprisingly healing, especially after years of always having to be productive or available.
Day 4: Emotional Wellness and Inner Peace
This day turns more toward the emotional side of wellbeing. The practices are gentle and varied. You might spend time journaling with guidance, take part in simple emotional release exercises, or sit in a sharing circle with other women. These moments are about being heard and supported, without fixing or explaining anything away.
There’s also a mindfulness meditation that helps you notice your thoughts and feelings without getting pulled into them. You learn how to watch what’s happening inside, instead of reacting right away. Many women find this especially helpful for anxiety, low moods, or the emotional ups and downs that can come with hormonal changes.
In the afternoon, spa treatments continue. This could be a facial using traditional Ayurvedic herbs or a therapy chosen to support something specific you’ve talked about with your doctor. Everything is done slowly, with attention and care. You’re treated as a whole person, not a list of symptoms, and that makes a quiet but real difference.
Day 5: Balance and Nourishment
As the retreat starts to wind down, attention turns to what happens after you leave. How do you take what you’ve experienced here and bring it into everyday life? The morning yoga practice reflects that question. It’s about balance. Finding steadiness in the body, and noticing how that sense of balance can carry into the rest of your day.
Later, there’s a simple cooking demonstration focused on Ayurvedic food you can actually make at home. You’ll learn how different tastes support the body, how to eat in a way that suits your own constitution, and how to keep things nourishing without making them complicated. There’s no talk of strict rules or diets. It’s about building a kinder, more sustainable relationship with food.
In the evening, the group comes together one last time to share and reflect. People talk about what’s shifted, what they’re taking with them, and what they want to hold onto once they’re back home. These circles are often emotional in a quiet way. There’s a shared recognition of how much can change in a short time, when you give yourself the space to really be present.
Day 6: Gratitude and New Beginnings
The final morning comes gently. There’s a closing gathering to acknowledge what you’ve been through and what you want to carry forward. It isn’t formal or heavy. Just honest. There may be tears. There’s often laughter too. And a quiet sense of gratitude for the time you’ve shared and the space you’ve given yourself.
After one last yoga session and breakfast, it’s time to head home. You leave with more than a sense of rest. You take practical tools you can actually use, more steady energy, and a clearer understanding of yourself. Many women also leave with real connections that don’t end here.
A lot of people say the same thing afterward. That somewhere along the way, they found a part of themselves they hadn’t realized was missing. And that feels like something worth taking home.
The Ayurvedic Advantage: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Women
Understanding Your Unique Constitution
Ayurveda starts from a simple idea: no two people are the same, so care shouldn’t be either. It works with three basic energy types, called doshas. Vata is linked to air and space. Pitta connects to fire and water. Kapha comes from earth and water. Most of us are a mix, with one or two showing up more strongly.
During the retreat, you’ll learn which doshas are most active for you. From there, you begin to see why certain foods, habits, or routines either help you feel balanced or leave you feeling off. It can explain things you may have noticed about yourself for years but never quite understood.
This is what makes Ayurveda feel so personal. Instead of following general advice meant for everyone, you learn what actually supports your own body and mind. Small adjustments, made with awareness, often bring the biggest sense of ease.
Treatments That Heal from Within
The Ayurvedic treatments you receive during the retreat work gently but deeply, often on more than one level at the same time. The warm herbal oils don’t just soothe tired muscles. They sink into the tissues, support the organs, and help the body let go of what it no longer needs. The massage techniques follow natural energy pathways, which means the work affects both the physical body and the quieter layers beneath it.
Some of the treatments you may experience include:
Abhyanga:
A full-body massage done with warm herbal oils chosen for your dosha. It’s slow, grounding, and deeply calming. People often notice better circulation, a lighter feeling in the body, and skin that feels nourished and soft.
Shirodhara:
A steady stream of warm oil is gently poured over the forehead. This treatment is known for its calming effect on the mind. It’s often helpful for anxiety, poor sleep, and mental overload. Many people drift into a deep, meditative state during this session.
Swedana:
A herbal steam therapy that helps open the pores and soften the body. It supports detoxification and is often used to prepare the body for other treatments.
Kati Basti:
A focused oil treatment for the lower back. This can be especially supportive for back tension, stiffness from long hours of sitting, or discomfort linked to women’s health concerns.
Mukha Abhyanga:
A facial massage using specific oils and gentle pressure points. It supports skin health, improves circulation, and often leaves the face looking rested and refreshed.
All treatments are given by experienced therapists trained in traditional Ayurvedic methods. The approach is careful and attentive, making sure the work feels supportive, not rushed or mechanical.
The Mind-Body Connection Through Yoga
The yoga here isn’t about getting into perfect poses or pushing yourself to look a certain way. It’s about coming back into your body. Noticing what it needs. Moving in a way that feels supportive right now, not based on some ideal. The aim is to build strength and ease that you can actually live with, not chase quick results.
The teachers pay close attention and meet you where you are. There are options for every level, so nothing feels forced or out of reach. You’re invited to explore your edge gently, without pressure or comparison.
The practices are shaped around women’s bodies. There’s time spent opening the hips to support pelvic health. Gentle inversions that can help with balance and hormonal shifts. Twists that support digestion. And plenty of restorative poses that settle the nervous system and allow real rest. Alongside movement, you’ll learn simple breathing and meditation practices that help bring clarity and emotional steadiness. These are tools meant to stay with you, long after the retreat is over.
Nutrition as Medicine
The food at Ayurvie Weligama is meant to support you, not just fill you up. It’s cooked with care, following Ayurvedic ideas about balance and timing, so meals feel grounding rather than heavy. Each one includes a range of tastes that help you feel satisfied without that sluggish feeling afterward.
Everything is made with fresh, organic ingredients and kept simple so the natural flavors come through. Spices are used with intention. Turmeric for inflammation. Ginger to support digestion. Cumin to help with balance. Cardamom to soothe the mind. Nothing feels overdone. You eat enough, feel nourished, and still feel light.
All meals are vegetarian, built around whole grains, lentils, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and good fats. There’s no dieting mindset here. Just steady, supportive food. And if you have specific dietary needs, the kitchen is flexible and happy to adapt. The aim is to make eating feel easy and supportive, not complicated.
Exploring Weligama: Your Seaside Sanctuary's Location
The Charm of Sri Lanka's South Coast
Weligama sits along Sri Lanka’s southern coast and has a relaxed, easygoing feel. It’s well known for gentle surf that’s friendly for beginners, along with a mix of casual cafés and small restaurants. While surfers come from all over the world, the town also suits people who are here for rest, wellness, and a slower pace.
The most comfortable time to visit is between November and April. The days are warm and mostly dry, with soft breezes from the sea. It’s the kind of weather that makes time outdoors feel effortless, whether you’re on the beach, walking around town, or simply sitting and resting.
Cultural and Natural Attractions
Beyond the retreat, Weligama offers opportunities to engage with Sri Lankan culture and natural beauty:
Kushtarajagala Statue
Not far from Weligama, there’s a rock-carved statue believed to date back to the 8th century. It’s one of the oldest examples of Mahayana Buddhist art in Sri Lanka. Visiting this site feels quiet and reflective, offering a small window into the area’s long history.
Coconut Tree Hill:
Nearby Mirissa is known for its open ocean views. Many people go early in the morning or just before sunset, when the light changes and everything slows down. It’s a simple place to stand, look out, and take a breath.
Jungle Beach:
Only a few kilometers away, there’s a smaller, tucked-away beach with white sand and clear blue water. It’s calmer and less crowded, good for gentle swimming or sitting by the shore without interruption.
Local Spas and Wellness Centers:
Weligama also has a range of spas and massage places, with well-trained therapists offering different treatments. If you feel like adding something extra to your stay, these can be a nice complement to the retreat, without taking away from its quiet rhythm.
Day Trip Possibilities
While the retreat provides a full schedule, if you choose to extend your stay in Weligama, consider these nearby destinations:
Galle Fort: A beautifully preserved Portuguese and Dutch colonial fortification, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Mirissa: Just 8km away, Mirissa offers additional beaches and nightlife, easily accessible for day visits
Handunugoda Tea Estate: Experience Sri Lankan tea culture at this working plantation
Whale Watching: During season (December to April), Mirissa is one of the best places globally to see blue whales and dolphins

What You'll Take Home: The Lasting Benefits
Physical Transformation
Many women say they feel lighter in their bodies by the end of the retreat. Not just physically, but overall. There’s more energy, less heaviness, and a sense of ease that wasn’t there before. The mix of yoga, Ayurvedic treatments, and nourishing food often shows up in small but noticeable ways. Clearer skin. Brighter eyes. Better posture. Deeper sleep. Less everyday pain or tightness.
The detox practices support the body’s own cleansing systems. They help clear out what’s built up over time from stress, rushed meals, processed food, and constant stimulation. A lot of women notice their digestion settling, less bloating, and energy that lasts through the day instead of rising and crashing.
For those dealing with hormonal imbalances, the retreat takes a whole-body approach. Food, stress levels, movement, rest, and sleep are all looked at together. Six days won’t fix everything, and there’s no promise of that. But it often creates a clear reset and gives you tools that make it easier to keep supporting your body once you’re back home.
Practical Skills for Sustainable Wellness
This isn’t like a holiday where you feel good for a few days and then slip right back into old habits once you’re home. The retreat is set up to give you things you can actually keep using.
1. You’ll learn simple yoga sequences you can do on your own, without needing much space or time.
2. There are breathing practices to help when stress or anxiety creeps in.
3. You’ll be shown how to do basic Ayurvedic self-massage, so you can care for your body in a hands-on way.
4. You’ll understand food choices that support your own balance, rather than following rigid rules.
5. There are meditation practices to help quiet the mind and stay grounded.
6. And small self-care rituals that remind you to check in with yourself instead of always pushing through.
Before you leave, your Ayurvedic doctor puts together a wellness plan just for you. It’s practical and personal, based on your body type, lifestyle, and what you want to work on next. Something you can return to once real life starts moving again.
Emotional and Mental Clarity
The physical changes matter, but for many women, the biggest shift happens inside. Slowing down, meditating, and being in a supportive group creates space for emotions that haven’t had room to surface. Nothing is forced. Feelings come up when they’re ready, and there’s time to sit with them.
A lot of women arrive feeling worn out, overwhelmed, or a bit lost. By the end of the retreat, there’s often more clarity about what really matters. Boundaries feel clearer. Decisions feel less tangled. And there’s a renewed sense of trust in their own inner voice. It’s the kind of perspective that’s hard to find when life is busy and constantly demanding your attention.
Community and Continued Support
The connections made here don’t usually end when the retreat does. Many women stay in touch, sharing check-ins, encouragement, and small reminders to keep caring for themselves. Some even plan to meet again later.
For some, this becomes an annual pause they return to as part of their self-care. Others come once, during a big life change like menopause, divorce, a career shift, or health challenges. Even then, the experience often stays with them, something they return to mentally when things feel hard or uncertain.

Why This Retreat Matters: The Importance of Women's Wellness
The Crisis of Women's Depletion
Many women today are stretched thin in ways that weren’t common before. Work, family, caregiving, home life, relationships, and the quiet pressure to keep everything running smoothly. On top of that, there’s an unspoken expectation to look fine while doing it all. The result for many is burnout. Not the dramatic kind, but the slow, steady kind that wears you down over time.
The numbers reflect what a lot of women already feel. Anxiety and depression show up more often. Autoimmune issues are more common. Sleep gets sacrificed, year after year. Long-term stress starts to affect hormones, energy, mood, and even bone health. None of this happens overnight, but it adds up.
Beyond the statistics is the lived reality. Feeling tired no matter how much you rest. Feeling disconnected from your body. Going through the motions while running on empty. Still showing up. Still holding everything together. The message women often hear is to push harder, manage better, do more. What’s rarely said is that it’s okay to slow down. To rest. To receive support. To simply be, without having to earn it.
The Radical Act of Prioritizing Yourself
Choosing to step away for six days and focus on yourself can feel uncomfortable at first. Many women worry it’s selfish. It isn’t. When you’re exhausted and running on fumes, there’s nothing left to give. You can’t keep caring for everyone else when you’re constantly putting yourself last.
You don’t need to justify rest by how productive you’ve been. You don’t need to earn peace by doing more. Feeling steady, energized, and at ease in your own body isn’t a reward. It’s a basic need.
This retreat gives you permission to put yourself first, maybe for the first time in a long while. It creates space to step out of all the roles you juggle and remember who you are underneath them. With support, simple practices, and time to slow down, things start to come back into balance.
Taking care of yourself isn’t indulgent. It’s the foundation that everything else rests on.
The Ripple Effect of Women's Wellness
When a woman starts to feel better in herself, it doesn’t stop with her. It ripples out. Someone who has more energy, clearer boundaries, and a stronger sense of what matters shows up differently everywhere. With her children. With her partner. At work. Even in small, everyday moments. Often without trying, she gives others permission to take themselves seriously too.
Women’s wellness isn’t only about personal healing. It has a wider effect. Every woman who steps out of constant exhaustion and chooses rest and care helps loosen the idea that worth comes from overdoing and overgiving. Little by little, that shift changes how we see productivity, value, and what it really means to live well.
FAQ
Who is this retreat designed for?
This retreat is open to women at every stage of life. Some are in their twenties, others in their seventies, and many somewhere in between. You might be dealing with fertility questions, recovering after pregnancy, moving through perimenopause or menopause, or simply feeling out of sync with yourself. The retreat is shaped around individual needs, so wherever you are, you’re met there.
You don’t need any background in yoga or meditation. The practices are adaptable, and the focus is on how they feel in your body, not how they look. The same goes for Ayurveda. No prior knowledge is needed. Your doctor takes time to explain things clearly, so nothing feels confusing or overwhelming.
Many women come on their own, and that often allows for deeper personal work. At the same time, friends, sisters, or mothers and daughters are welcome to come together. The retreat naturally balances shared connection with enough personal space, so you can be with others when you want and on your own when you need it.
What should I pack?
Clothing: Comfortable, modest clothing for yoga (leggings, tank tops, t-shirts); loose, breathable clothing for Ayurvedic treatments; casual wear for meals and beach walks; light jacket or shawl for air-conditioned spaces; swimsuit; sandals and walking shoes.
Personal items: Sunscreen, insect repellent, personal toiletries (though basics are provided), reusable water bottle, journal and pen, book for leisure reading, medications you're currently taking, camera or phone for capturing memories.
What not to bring: You won't need fancy clothes, jewelry, or high heels. The retreat encourages natural beauty and simplicity. Consider limiting phone and device use to enhance your experience.
Is travel insurance recommended?
Yes, we strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies, trip cancellation, and travel delays. While Sri Lanka is generally safe and our staff are highly trained, unexpected situations can arise during international travel.
How do I get to and from the retreat?
We offer private airport transfer service for €120 (shared) or €200 (private) each way. Alternatively, you can arrange your own transportation. The journey from Bandaranaike International Airport takes 3-4 hours depending on traffic. We provide detailed directions and can assist with any travel arrangements.
What is the cancellation policy?
Full refund if cancelled 60+ days before start date (minus €200 administrative fee); 50% refund if cancelled 30-59 days before; no refund if cancelled less than 30 days before start date. We understand that life happens—contact us to discuss your specific situation if you need to cancel.
Can I stay connected during the retreat?
WiFi is available throughout the property, but we encourage limiting digital connection to enhance your experience. Consider setting up an autoresponder letting people know you're attending a wellness retreat and will respond after returning. Emergency contact information is provided to your emergency contacts at check-in.
Many women report that disconnecting from digital demands is one of the most valuable aspects of the retreat. The opportunity to be truly present, without constant notifications and obligations, creates space for deeper healing and insight.
What happens after the retreat?
You'll leave with a personalized wellness plan from your Ayurvedic doctor, including recommendations for diet, lifestyle, practices, and possibly herbal supplements. We provide resources for continuing your yoga and meditation practice at home. Many retreats offer post-program virtual check-ins to support your continued journey (especially premium package participants).
We also maintain an online community where retreat alumni can stay connected, share experiences, and support each other's wellness journeys.
